Dolphins' Darr named 'toughest punter' in NFL after rare penalty
The Miami Dolphins may be in last place in the division with just four wins, but they do have something no other teams have: the league's toughest punter.
In Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys, Dolphins punter Matt Darr was called for a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty for slamming Lucky Whitehead to the ground after he was out of bounds.
The penalty gave Dallas better field position, but it didn't seem to bother head coach Dan Campbell too much.
“I’ve got to be real careful how I answer this,” Campbell said in his press conference. “It hurt us, it cost us. But maybe we should find another position for him to play as well as punter. I mean, you know, If I’ve got a punter that will get a personal foul because he’s going after a guy, it really doesn’t bother me, to be honest with you."
Darr, a rookie, flexed his muscles on the play, but it's his leg that's done the most damage this season. He's third in the NFL in punting average (48.3 yards per punt), and first in aggressiveness.
"We probably have the toughest punter in the league, though,” Campbell said. “Or most aggressive.”
