Does Bowles think Wilkerson will attend mandatory minicamp?

Published Jun. 3, 2015 10:55 p.m. ET

New York Jets star defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson has not attended a single voluntary OTA session over the past couple of weeks. This stems from Wilkerson holding out for a contract extension as he enters the last year of his rookie deal with the Jets.

As the Jets mandatory OTAs approach, head coach Todd Bowles was asked whether or not Wilkerson would be showing up.

Bowles simply replied that he was "hopeful" that Wilkerson would show up once OTAs became mandatory.

In the case that Wilkerson extends his holdout into mandatory OTAs as well as possibly the beginning of training camp, the Jets are prepared for life without him after drafting USC defensive lineman Leonard Williams with the sxith overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
