Dirk Koetter: Jameis Winston is a 'no-brainer' for Rookie of the Year
If you ask Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter about who the Rookie of the Year is, there's no question in his mind that it's his quarterback. Jameis Winston put together a strong rookie year, complete with 4,042 passing yards and 28 total touchdowns (six of which were rushing).
Via Rick Brown of ESPN:
"When you've got a guy who touches the ball every single offensive snap of the season, that guy is really going to be tough to beat," Koetter said. "Not one of the guys [being] mentioned has touched the ball every snap of the season. You look at what Jameis has done -- his numbers for a rookie quarterback are pretty darn good."
Brown mentioned Todd Gurley of the St. Louis Rams, Marcus Mariota of the Tennessee Titans and Amari Cooper of the Oakland Raiders, but while Koetter did acknowledge those three, he turned his attention right back to Winston.
"The three other players you mentioned, I have a ton of respect for all three of them," Koetter said. "[But] for a guy to play every snap of his rookie season and do all the things [Winston] has done, it's a no-brainer."
