Demaryius Thomas planning to skip Broncos' workouts
By Rachel Wold
In years past, Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has worked out with quarterback Peyton Manning at Duke University during the offseason.
That will not be the case for Thomas, who has received the team’s franchise tag in early March, this spring. Along with skipping the trip to Duke, Thomas also says that he is not planning on participating in the team’s offseason program.
Waiting on his contract situation to work itself out, Thomas isn’t just sitting around being lazy. He is currently working out in Atlanta.
"I'm getting getting my body right, still working through a little soreness in my Achilles, but I could run routes," he told ESPN's Jeff Legwold.
It is not unusual for players who have not yet signed off on their franchise tags to not participate in the team’s offseason organized team activities. Thomas will likely hold back on signing his tag until closer to the July 15 deadline. In the meantime, there really isn’t much of a reason for him to risk a serious injury without the Broncos committing to him long term.
