DeflateGate 2? Giants say Steelers deflated footballs

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The New York Giants alerted the NFL that they believe the Pittsburgh Steelers deflated footballs during last week’s game.

Who can forget the entire debacle known to the entire football world as “DeflateGate.” The story that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had members of the staff under inflate the footballs before the 2014 AFC Championship game against the Colts, a game that the Patriots won 45-7. After about a year and a half of Brady and the NFL going back and fourth, he was finally suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season.

The world seemed to rejoice once it ended but according to FOX Sports insider Jay Glazer, it could be happening again.

The Giants went into Pittsburgh on a six-game win streak and a record of 8-3. They lost to the Steelers 24-14 and quite frankly were dominated the entire game. So, what was the reason this high powered offense was shut down? They think the footballs.

Glazer explained that after the Giants turned the ball over twice, they started to think that the balls were not at playing level. They took two balls and tested them on the side line and they were under. The Giants did inform the NFL and had the balls sent in to be tested. We can only hope that this does not drone on like the Patriots situation.

For the Giants, they shouldn’t want this to go on for long either. They currently sit at 8-4 and comfortably in the first wild card slot in the NFC. The last four games of the season will have them play home against the Cowboys and Lions and finish on the road against the Eagles and Redskins. If the Giants were smart, they would take the loss to the Steelers and focus on their next four games and the playoffs.

They are looking to make the postseason for the first time since 2011. Their last four games, with the exception of Dallas, may see them as favorites in every game. The Big Blue defense seems like they are starting to earn their money and the high powered offense has been clicking all season. With the season coming to a close, the Giants do not need any distractions.
