Dancer's ex was arrested for abuse

Published Dec. 20, 2010 12:00 a.m. ET

The ex-boyfriend of a Las Vegas dancer and former NFL cheerleader who's gone missing had previously been arrested for abusing her, and she may have been pregnant with his child, ABC News has reported.

Police still are searching for Debora "Debbie" Flores-Narvaez, 31, a cast member of Luxor's "Fantasy" show, who disappeared after leaving her Las Vegas home at approximately 7 p.m. on Dec. 12.

Flores-Narvaez apparently was last seen by ex-boyfriend Jason "Blu" Griffith, who was arrested Oct. 22 and charged with one count of domestic-violence-related battery, a misdemeanor, and one count of coercion, which is a felony, according to Vegas police.

A police report said Flores-Narvaez confronted Griffith after he stole her iPhone, and the argument led to a fight in which he kicked her and pulled her hair. The report said the dancer had bruises on her legs and that a chunk of her hair was recovered at the scene.

Flores-Narvaez told officers that she'd been dating Griffith, a Las Vegas dancer, for one year and was pregnant with his child. Griffith told the officers he argued with her but denied any violence or taking her phone. Police say he is cooperating with the current investigation and is not a suspect.

However, Celeste Flores, the woman's sister, told FOXNews.com that Griffith has been uncooperative in providing the family with detailed information.

"I am the only one out here on behalf of my family and he doesn't want to sit down and talk to me," Flores said. "There are many inconsistencies."

Flores said Griffith told her in a phone conversation last week that the young woman visited his home around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 12, and that the two spoke briefly at his front door.

"He told me that she said she’s been depressed for the past couple of days because it was the holidays and she wasn’t around her family," Flores said. "He also said she was sleeping in her car the past couple of nights," which Flores said was "unlike" her sister.

"Debbie was kind of private when it came to her personal life," Flores added, "but I understand from almost all of her friends that her relationship with Blu made her upset a lot."

Her mother, Elise Narvaez, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution she was confused by a text message she received from her daughter on Dec. 1.

“In case there is ever an emergency with me, contact Blu Griffith in Vegas. My ex-boyfriend. Not my best friend,” the message read.

When Narvaez asked her daughter what she meant, she reportedly texted, “never mind, mommy. Just keep it for your records.”

Griffith could not be reached for comment when contacted by FOXNews.com.

Flores-Narvaez was reported missing by one of her roommates Dec. 14 after she failed to show up for rehearsal. Investigators reportedly found Flores Narvaez's car, a maroon 1997 four-door Chevrolet Prism, parked in the city's northeast section on Thursday. Family members told FOXNews.com that the car's Maryland license plates had been removed.

Deon Ridley, a friend who danced with Flores-Narvaez for three years, said she had expressed concern over obsessed fans.

"Being in the industry that she's in, being in a burlesque show, it's very risqué for any female in Las Vegas. Her safety is very important," he said.

Flores-Narvaez, who was born in Puerto Rico and lived with her family in Baltimore, Md., relocated to Las Vegas two years ago to pursue a dancing career. An accomplished performer, Flores-Narvaez worked as an "ambassador" for the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders in 2007 and 2008, according to her MySpace page, and auditioned for the hit series, "So You Think You Can Dance."

Her profile also says that she holds advanced degrees in law and business.

"She is so kindhearted," Asia Bosley, a family friend, said in an interview Sunday. "She would give the shirt off her back for anybody."

Narvaez is described as Hispanic, 5-foot-5 and 120 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.
