Cowboys sign punter Chris Jones to a new contract

Published Apr. 29, 2015 10:17 a.m. ET

The Dallas Cowboys announced a contract extension for punter Chris Jones that will keep him signed through the 2017 season. For a second offseason in a row, the Cowboys locked up one of their core special teams players after signing kicker Dan Bailey to a seven-year extension in 2014.

Jones has been the team's starting punter since the 2012 season and a career 45.0-yard punt average (40.0-yard net average).

With the special teams in place, the Cowboys can turn their focus to the offensive and defensive side of the ball during this weekend's draft.
