Cowboys change mind on Long

Published Jun. 25, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

The Dallas Cowboys have signed defensive tackle Jerome Long after deciding against keeping the second-year player during rookie minicamp last month.

The signing of Long on Tuesday came five days after Dallas released defensive end Anthony Hargrove, one of the players suspended in the New Orleans bounty scandal.

Long was a seventh-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs last year and spent most of the season on their practice squad.

Jacksonville signed Long before the season finale in 2012, but he didn't play. The Jaguars released him in April, and he was on Dallas' tryout roster for rookie minicamp.

Long had 163 tackles and nine sacks in four seasons at San Diego State.
