Cordarrelle Patterson catches touchdown against Texans

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson took full advantage of his playing time against the Houston Texans, scoring a touchdown in week 5.

The Houston Texans defense had only allowed one passing touchdown during the 2016 NFL season coming into their week 5 game against the Minnesota Vikings. Sam Bradford was having a good game through the first three quarters, and entered the fourth quarter with a good opportunity.

With the ball at the 9 yard line, the Vikings offense had the opportunity to push the game even further out of reach for a Houston team with a secondary struggling to remain healthy and stagnant offense. And Minnesota wouldn’t squander that chance.

Here is the play as shared by the official Minnesota Vikings Twitter account:

The play started with Sam Bradford in the shotgun formation. He shouted out some orders before getting the snap from center Joe Berger. Surveying the field, he looked for some quick options to get the ball out of his hands.

Bradford decided to take a shot to Cordarrelle Patterson. He let go of the pass, throwing it high for his wide receiver to make a play for it.

The highly athletic Patterson jumped for the ball and got both hands on it. Sadly, so did cornerback Charles James II. That didn’t stop the receiver from scoring though, as he fought his way to the ground with possession of the football.

Seeing the strong effort and great play from Cordarrelle Patterson during the 2016 NFL season is very reassuring that he will be a part of the franchise going forward. Despite limited usage in the past, he has been proving to be a valuable asset for the Vikings, and one that can make a difference on a regular basis.
