Colts owner: Luck extension won't come this offseason
Andrew Luck might be a franchise quarterback, but it appears he's going to have to wait to be paid like one.
Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay told the Indianapolis Star that the team is in no rush to offer Luck an extension.
"Not right now," Irsay said. "I think that'll be a focus of next offseason that we'll address. Andrew still has two years left, and whatever our talks are between Andrew and his people will remain confidential.
"It's not like we don't have conversations about a possibility, so to speak, of something. But I really think most likely the scenario is most likely going to be going into the offseason next year is when that second contract will come up. That's the vision I have right now."
Luck won't become a free agent until 2017, but the Colts most likely want to avoid having him on the open market. He had career highs in passing yards (4,761), passing touchdowns (40) and completion percentage (61.7) in 2014.
Luck has eclipsed the 4,000-passing yard mark in two of his first three seasons and has guided the Colts to three consecutive playoff appearances. The year before the Colts drafted Luck, Indianapolis suffered through a 2-14 season.
