Colts' Luck vows to play again this season despite lacerated kidney
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck hasn't played since suffering a lacerated kidney in the team's Nov. 8 win over the Denver Broncos, but he told reporters Monday he doesn't have any doubt he'll be able to return before the end of the season.
The Colts have been blown out two weeks in a row, and with backup Matt Hasselbeck's health in question after he was forced to leave Sunday's 51-16 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars with an injury to his ribs, Indianapolis would certainly welcome having Luck back in the lineup this week.
But before he can return, Luck must first clear two hurdles. First, he must be cleared to return to practice. Then, he must gain additional clearance to play.
With or without Luck, Indianapolis faces the Houston Texans on Sunday with sole possession of first place in the AFC South on the line. If neither Luck nor Hasselbeck are able to play, Charlie Whitehurst will get the start for the Colts.
Head coach Chuck Pagano said Monday, though, that he expects Hasselbeck to be good to go.
