Clemson Tigers in the NFL: Week 5 top performances
Tigers fans we have a new segment for you guys! Every Sunday we are going to highlight the best performances by former Clemson Tigers in the NFL.
Offense
Charlie Whitehurst, the most recent product of the Cleveland Browns quarterback woes, went 14/24 for 182 yards with 1 TD and 1 int. The Browns got the unfortunate task of facing Tom Brady in his return from a four game suspension. The Patriots whooped Cleveland 33-13.
Deandre Hopkins posted 5 catches for 56 yards and 1 TD in the Texans 31-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Dewayne Allen recorded 6 catches for 50 yards and 1 TD in the Colts rollercoaster win over the Chicago Bears.
Defense
Vic Beasley had the best game of his young career against Denver this afternoon, recording 7 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in the Falcons 23-16 victory over the reigning super bowl champs. Grady Jarret another former Tiger also recorded a sack against the Broncos as well.
Byron Maxwell of the Miami Dolphins recorded 4 tackles and 1 forced fumble in their loss to the Tennessee Titans
Special Teams
Chandler Catanzaro was 4/4 on PAT’s and hit 1 field goal from 36 yards out in the Cardinals win over the San Francisco 49ers.
Alumni of the week
Vic Beasley of course. Beasley has been heavily criticized for his lack of production so far in his career and this performance couldn’t have come at a better time. Hats off to Vic.
Future pros
In CBS sports most recent 2017 mock draft, three Tigers were predicted as first round picks. Deshaun Watson (2nd overall to the 49ers), Mike Williams (15th overall to the Cowboys), and Cordrea Tankersley (31st overall to the Eagles).
Serious question. If you were Deshaun Watson, would you refuse to play for the Cleveland Browns? It’s been done before; Eli Manning and the San Diego Chargers; Bo Jackson and the Tampa Bay Bucs. Let me know what you guys think.
