Clausen deals with new system, Newton's popularity

Last year's Carolina Panthers starting quarterback Jimmy Clausen says he's keeping a good attitude despite learning a new offensive system and battling Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton for the position.

Clausen, in his second year out of Notre Dame, was the focus of Panthers camp a year ago. Now, he hears screams like ''Sit down, Clausen'' from the crowd after a bad pass. Clausen says he and Newton have become friends and welcomes the competition that will make the offense better.

Clausen won just one of his 10 starts last season, throwing nine interceptions and just three touchdowns.

Clausen says he's not worried about the cheers for Newton when the rookie breaks off a dazzling run or throws a long pass.
