Chiefs would cut salaries in NFL work stoppage

Everyone who works for the Kansas City Chiefs, including general manager Scott Pioli and head coach Todd Haley, will be lighter in the wallet if there's a work stoppage in the NFL.

A person who is close to the situation confirmed to The Associated Press on Wednesday that the Chiefs have a plan to reduce salaries during any prolonged stoppage while letting everybody keep their jobs. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Chiefs have not publicly acknowledged the plan, which was first reported by the Kansas City Star.

In the event of a work stoppage, the person said, the Chiefs would adjust salaries with those making the most money taking the biggest hit. No employees would be laid off or furloughed. If there is a full 2011 season, employees would be reimbursed for money that had been withheld.

The average reduction for all employees would be less than 10 percent, the person said.
