The Kansas City Chiefs have some very tough decisions to make regarding their roster. This is my prediction at who makes the final cut.
Need some predictions? We have ’em.
QB’s – (3) – Alex Smith, Nick Foles, Tyler Bray
No Surprises at one and two. Murray was announced to be released which could also be a way to force the Vikings to make a trade for him as they are behind Dallas on the waiver wire.
HB’s – (4) – Jamaal Charles, Spencer Ware, Charcandrick West, Darrin Reaves
With news of Charles possibly not being ready for week one keeping Darrin Reaves is something that makes even more sense. He’s earned it with his play in my eyes but to this point it’s a tough position to crack with at least two guys ahead of him that could start on most other teams.
A quick reaction to the final Chiefs final preseason game Thursday night.
FB’s – (1) – Anthony Sherman
Sherman is still one of the best at what he does and he is a core special teams player.

WR’s – (6) – Jeremy Maclin, Chris Conley, Rod Streater, Tyreek Hill, Demarcus Robinson, Albert Wilson
The top two are set in my mind. Past that I’m not sure what the order may be. Streater provides a big body and a veteran presence to push Conley. Hill looks promising as a returner but has a lot to learn as a wide receiver. Robinson has continually flashed as a gunner on special teams and should make it based on that alone.
He is a very talented wide receiver that needs time to develop at the position. I’ve been very critical of Wilson but him not playing last night shows he is probably safe. I wouldn’t hate it if he was on the outside looking in and they decided to keep De’Anthony Thomas. The biggest question to me with Wilson is where does he contribute if he isn’t a starting WR. Slot WR isn’t enough of a starter to not play special teams.
TE’s – (3) – Travis Kelce, Demetrius Harris, Ross Travis
One and two are again not a surprise at TE. Ross Travis to me looks like the third TE at this point. Very raw player but his 40 time is actually faster than Kelce’s and at 6-foot-7 he provides a big target at the TE position. If he can improve on his blocking it will really help the Chiefs that love to run a 3 TE set.
OL – (7) – Eric Fisher, Parker Ehinger, Mitch Morse, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Mitchell Schwartz, Zach Fulton, Jah Reid
This has seemed pretty set from the start of OTA’s even. The Chiefs could look to add a veteran swing tackle but they will also probably have at least two more lineman on the practice squad. The depth of the roster keeps them from keeping eight right now.

DL – (6) – Jaye Howard, Dontari Poe, Allen Bailey, Chris Jones, Nick Williams, Rakeem Nunez-Roches
Past the top four players the depth guys probably won’t see much time because of the talent ahead of them. The Chiefs defensive line should be very good this year. Williams provides good depth on the line. Nunez-Roches has flashed throughout camp and the preseason but isn’t going to be pushing those ahead of him for snaps. David King is a possibility if KC decides to keep less at LB or RB. Could push RNR off the roster as well as he has played well but I think he may be this year’s David Irving.
LB’s – (10) – Derrick Johnson, Justin March, Tamba Hali, Dee Ford, Frank Zombo, Dadi Nicolas, DJ Alexander, Ramik Wilson, Dezman Moses, Terrance Smith
The Chiefs may be looking at veterans to add at either linebacker position because of injuries to Justin Houston and Josh Mauga. I think the top eight listed are pretty set. Moses unfortunately is probably the odd man out at OLB if they go with four, Terrence Smith the odd man out at ILB. Smith looks to have promise and can play special teams. KC could also choose to send Smith through waivers and try to get him on the practice squad.
DB’s – (10) – Eric Berry, Ron Parker, Daniel Sorenson, Eric Murray, Marcus Peterson, Phillip Gaines, Steven Nelson, DJ White, KeiVarae Russel, Kenneth Acker
With the trade of Marcus Cooper to the Cardinals for a conditional pick these ten DB’s look pretty set. Kansas City has a ton of youth at CB and it will be tested early and often especially with a lack of pass rush.
ST’s – (3) – Dustin Colquitt, Cairo Santos, James Winchester
There are no surprises on special teams.
What do you think, Addicts? Who would you leave on the team or take off?
