Chiefs' Jeremy Maclin already proving he's a high-effort receiver

Jeremy Maclin plans on giving his all for the Kansas City Chiefs, if first practices are any indication.

The free-agent pickup already laid out for a long pass or two at organized team activities.

"You try to stay off the ground but when that ball is in the air it's a different story," Maclin told ESPN. "It's instincts and reaction. You just kind of go with it."

Chiefs fans might gasp; if their $55 million receiver lands awkwardly, he could leave their team thin at receiver again. But that's just the type of player Maclin is -- and his new team knows it.

Now, Maclin wants to get on the same page as quarterback Alex Smith to avoid those missteps altogether.

"In a perfect world, you'd like to run straight every time and then make your break but that doesn't happen when there's a defense out there," Maclin said. "So I think this (practice time) is good for us."
