Chiefs' Alex Smith: C Kush has had a 'seamless' transition to starter

If you ask Alex Smith, replacing Rodney Hudson at center won't be so tough after all.

Smith says Eric Kush has shown he can step in for the departed Hudson after watching him progress this offseason.

"I've had Kush here the last couple years," Smith said "To be honest, it's been (a) very, very seamless (transition)."

Smith's praise might put Kush in the driver's seat for the starting job. Kansas City selected Mitch Morse in round two, but Smith says Kush knows the offense and communicates well.

"He and I already have a really good rapport together," Smith said of his backup center for two years.

Morse will keep battling for the job. But if Smith's preferences are any indication, the rookie out of Missouri will have to truly shine in order to unseat Kush.
