Chicago's Jeremiah Ratliff on moving to D-end: 'I'm going to enjoy it'
Chicago Bears defensive lineman Jeremiah Ratliff has plenty of NFL experience after 10 seasons in the league, but 2015 presents a new challenge: a position switch to defensive end. Ratliff is embracing his new home on the line, according to Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times.
“Eleven years, it’s been a long time,” Ratliff told the Sun-Times. “Your career’s coming to a close, so just enjoy it. If I’m at end, I’m going to enjoy it. I’m going to enjoy my time.
“I want to win. Wherever my team needs me, I’m going to be there. I’m going to make it work. Point-blank, end of discussion.”
Ratliff once made four consecutive Pro Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys at nose tackle (2008-2011), but his impact at the position is quickly dissipating as he approaches his 34th birthday. The Bears, who signed Ratliff during the 2013 season, hope to preserve some of the veteran’s effectiveness by lining him up at end.
Last season, Ratliff contributed 6.5 sacks in only 11 games.
