Chargers official dismisses talk of a downtown San Diego stadium

BY foxsports • June 17, 2015

If the Chargers are to remain in San Diego, one negotiator says it'll have to be at their current stadium site in Mission Valley.

Mark Fabiani, who has been the point person for Chargers stadium talks, says a downtown stadium just isn't an option city officials are considering.

"The mayor has shown no interest in downtown," Fabiani told The Mighty 1090 AM radio. "The hoteliers have no interest in having us downtown. So we've gotten the message. We're working in Mission Valley, and we're trying to get something on the ballot in a legal way. So that's where we're focused right now."

Fabiani's remarks should serve to quell a bubbling issue for San Diego's football team. The Bolts were long rumored to be eying a downtown stadium site near the San Diego Convention Center.

That's not going to happen, according to Fabiani.

"I think downtown issue, it's academic," he said. "It's not something that's going to rise up again."
