Chargers might have to sideline Johnnie Troutman even longer

The Chargers' offensive line could sure use some help and depth.

It won't come in the form of Johnnie Troutman this week. In fact, the veteran guard is still a few weeks away from returning from a broken arm, according to ESPN's Eric D. Williams.

Troutman told Williams his rehabilitation is going well -- but he's still recovering.

"I'm definitely itching to get back out there, go produce and help the team out any way I can," Troutman said. "It's been rough (watching from the sideline)."

The Chargers feel the same way. With new guard D.J. Fluker (high ankle sprain) out this month, they'd rather plug Troutman in than swing tackle Chris Hairston.

Fluker could ultimately return before Troutman does. But Troutman is immensely valuable as a fall-back option in case a setback occurs.

Said Troutman: "I just want to go out and help -- go out there, do your thing and show them why they kept you here."
