Chargers DB Steve Williams vying for a bigger role
Steve Williams entered last season's 49ers game as a reserve cornerback.
He exited that game as a defensive hero with two big pass breakups and with a boatload of confidence to bring into his third NFL year.
“I feel like I’ve grown, and this might be a big year for me," Williams told the team's official website. "I know what I am doing out there all the time now. So now my confidence level is on 10 because I am confident in my game and my work ethic."
Williams missed his entire rookie season, so he needed to rebuild that confidence. In fact, when he returned from a torn pectoral muscle last fall, nearly two years had gone by since he last played in college.
The pro game was a whirlwind at first. But Williams erased his doubts, settled in, and starred in that 49ers game.
He plans on making the most of his training camp opportunities in the same way.
"I didn’t know how fast the game was -- it was different from what I expected," Williams said. . "It’s awesome because this year I’ve gotten every rep and am capitalizing on being out there.”
