Chargers chairman says he still wants the team to stay in San Diego
He's looked into sharing a stadium with a bitter AFC West rival.
He's hired a former Los Angeles-NFL advocate to advise them on a potential move.
But Chargers team chairman Dean Spanos still views San Diego as "Plan A" when it comes to the team's future.
"I’ve always said, and I maintain the fact we want to stay in San Diego," Spanos told U-T San Diego's Kevin Acee. "We’re committed to keep trying to see if there is a viable solution. It has now come down to a financing plan, so I am anxious to see what the city puts forth.”
Spanos might be looking for a sweeter deal than the one a city committee has already proposed. But he's sticking to the script when it comes to relocation and financing -- it's San Diego first, and somewhere else after that.
“I know what the San Diego market is all about,’ Spanos said. “I’ve been there for 31 years. It’s a great market. This is all going to come down to: Can we find a viable solution from a financing perspective?”
