The New York Giants have released running back D.J. Ware, a member of their two Super Bowl championships teams in the last five years.

Ware tweeted on Friday that he was cut in a move that was not a surprise after the team took halfback David Wilson in the first round. Helping push the six-year veteran off the roster was the development of running back Da'Rel Scott and Andre Brown.

In leaving, Ware thanked the fans.

''ur well wishes r overwhelming will miss u all an my team Im not done I will b playing in NFL going BIG! just not here,'' Ware tweeted.

Ware, who was not active for Super Bowl in 2008, was the backup to Ahmad Bradshaw headed into training camp. But Wilson beat him out.
