Cardinals kicker Chandler Catanzaro misses potential game-winning FG (video)
Arizona Cardinals kicker Chandler Catanzaro missed a potential game-winning 24-yard field goal in overtime against the Seattle Seahawks.
The Arizona Cardinals went into Sunday Night Football needing a win against a division rival at home. Thanks to kicker Chandler Catanzaro, a missed 24-yard field goal and perhaps the will of some vengeful football god that we’ve angered and must now sacrifice a small lamb to in order to appease its wrath, they got a tie.
With the score knotted at 6-6 in overtime of what was an entirely miserable NFL game, the Cards got themselves all the way down to the goal line. A delay of game penalty moved Arizona back five yards, turning what was a 19-yard field goal into a 24-yard attempt.
Since both teams had already scored field goals in overtime, a clean chip shot would’ve given the Cardinals the win and mercifully ended a laughably bad game. Instead, Catanzaro sent it sailing straight into the left upright.
The Seahawks immediately drove the ball down the field with a chance to win the game and pull off the brutal, unlikely upset, but luckily for Catanzaro and the Cards, they missed a 28-yard field goal that would’ve put it away too.
The Cards were unable to score on a Hail Mary with limited time on the clock, which meant the game resulted in a tie.
NFL primetime games have been mostly atrocious this season, but this one might have been the crown jewel of unintentionally comedic football.
Catanzaro is now 8-for-11 on field goal attempts this season. He’s also missed one extra point.
