Browns say offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan resigned

BEREA, Ohio (AP) The Cleveland Browns say that departed offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan resigned earlier this week.

In a release Saturday, the team says it has accepted Shanahan's resignation and that quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains would also be departing. The release didn't specifically characterize Loggains' departure, but says that the Browns ''had to make'' a difficult decision.

Shanahan was the team's fifth offensive coordinator since 2009.

Quarterback Johnny Manziel looked overwhelmed and unprepared in his first NFL start as the Browns were shut out Dec. 14 by Cincinnati, a loss that ended Cleveland's playoff hopes. The team selected the former Heisman Trophy winner in the first round of last year's draft.

The NFL is also investigating whether someone with the Browns improperly sent texts to sideline coaches during games.
