Both teams have already been acquainted this offseason, as they were involved in one of the biggest trades of the 2016 NFL Draft. Wentz will start Week 1 for the Eagles while the Browns will also have a new starting quarterback. Robert Griffin III (RG3) signed with the Browns this offseason, mainly because their new head coach Hue Jackson.
Along with the Browns, the Eagles head into the 2016 season with a new head coach. They hired former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator, and former Eagles quarterback, Doug Pederson.
The build-up for this game has been fantastic. There are obvious reasons like two new head coaches and two new quarterbacks, but there has also been some trash talk. Browns general manager Paul DePodesta (via ESPN) made interesting comments towards Wentz and why the Browns did not select him with the second overall pick.
He mentioned they did not think Wentz could be good enough to be a “top-20 quarterback in the NFL” and also said, “you have to resist the temptation of taking that guy just because you have a need if you don’t believe he’s one of those 20 guys at the end of the day.”
If that wasn’t enough, Browns rookie defensive end Carl Nassib had this to say about Wentz (via Cleveland.com), “His release is a little slow, so we plan to take advantage of that.”
