Broncos second-year LB Davis working with the starters

Published Jun. 15, 2015 11:36 p.m. ET

Todd Davis was a reserve linebacker and practice squad player last year.

The Broncos might view him as much more than that, though. The second-year Sacramento State product has been running with the starters, according to reports.

New defensive coordinator Wade Phillips might like Davis over other Broncos like Lamin Barrow and Corey Nelson. Despite his inexperience, Davis is a more natural fit at 3-4 inside linebacker.

The move means nothing this early on. 'Backers Brandon Marshall and Danny Trevathan are nursing injuries and will assume their starting roles soon.

Still, it has to be encouraging for a small-school guy like Davis to crack the starting lineup. He's getting snaps he can lean on when summer camp gets under way.
