Broncos could set new NFL record Thursday night
By Zach Kruse
A win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night would give the Denver Broncos the new NFL record for consecutive road wins within the division.
Denver is currently tied with the San Francisco 49ers, who won 12 straight division games on the road from 1987 to 1990. Beating the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium would give the Broncos 13 in a row.
Denver’s current streak started way back in 2011, when the Tim Tebow-led Broncos beat the Raiders in Oakland. Overall, Denver has won four straight road games at Kansas City, Oakland and San Diego.
Setting the record won’t be a walk in the park for the Broncos.
Of the 14 Thursday night games last season, only six road teams emerged with victories. The Chiefs, who beat the Texans in Week 1, are currently favored by three points.
“It’s really difficult, first off, to come off an afternoon game and play on Thursday,” head coach Gary Kubiak said Monday.
The team’s last divisional road loss came in December of 2010, when the Raiders handed Denver its 11th loss in a 12-loss season. The Broncos have since won four straight AFC West titles.
