Broncos bench fumble-prone Ronnie Hillman

Published Oct. 27, 2013 4:25 p.m. ET

Running back Ronnie Hillman has been benched for the Broncos' game against Washington, and undrafted rookie C.J. Anderson is active for the first time in his career in Hillman's place.

Hillman fumbled at the goal line last week, thwarting Denver's comeback attempt at Indianapolis. His benching marks the first time he's been inactive since Sept. 17 of last season.

Other inactive Broncos: Champ Bailey (foot), Chris Kuper, Tony Carter, John Moffitt, Sylvester Williams and Zac Dysert.

The Redskins are without safeties Brandon Meriweather (suspended) and Reed Doughty (concussion). They will be replaced in the starting lineup by Bacarri Rambo and Jose Gumbs, respectively.

Rex Grossman, Chris Thompson, Brandon Jenkins, Josh LeRibeus, Fred Davis and Chris Neild also are out for Washington.
