Brandon Marshall says Darrelle Revis 'baited' him into swinging
Brandon Marshall didn't deny taking a swing at New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis in practice Friday, but he says there's more to the story than meets the eye.
The wideout says Revis had smacked him in the face on an earlier play and that the two had been exchanging trash talk throughout their head-to-head battle.
Marshall explained to reporters afterward:
"I beat him two times in a row, and then on the third one, he swung and hit me in the face. Ever since then, it got really competitive. That came back up in that moment. I just told him, 'Don't ever put your hands in my face again like that.' And he kind of baited me to do it, and I did it. I kind of went too far, but there's a thin line between football and being a man," said Marshall.
Marshall also discussed the trash talk between the two, which included Marshall taunting Revis abut getting burned by Texans wideout DeAndre Hopkins last season.
Jets fans worried the issue might cause friction in the locker room have nothing to fear, though. At least according to Marshall.
"People need to understand: We're friends. We're really close. Yes, I'm pissed off right now. And yes, he's pissed off right now. He should be. I should be," Marshall said.
"At the end of the day, we've got to move forward. And it may take a couple hours. But it can't go into the locker room. There's not going to be no brawl or anything like that. I'm still angry. I'm still upset. But I'm OK with that."
