Brady, Gronk get moms' support on disputed call

Published Nov. 20, 2013 4:45 p.m. ET

If mother knows best, the penalty that would have given the Patriots one last chance against the Panthers should have stood.

Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski say that's how their moms viewed the defensive pass interference call that was waved off on the last play of New England's 24-20 loss to Carolina on Monday night.

The quarterback had ''no final thoughts'' on his pass into the end zone toward Gronkowski, who was being bear-hugged by Luke Kuechly, but said with a laugh, ''My mom thought it was a penalty. Does that count?''

Gronkowski said his mother agreed.

''Our moms are on the same page,'' a smiling Gronkowski said, ''but we're way past that now. We're on to the Broncos.''

New England (7-3) plays Denver (9-1) on Sunday night.
