Bradford on push to get Pope to bless his knees: 'I'm all for it'

A contingent of Philadelphia Eagles fans presumably concerned over Sam Bradford’s troublesome and oft-injured left knee launched a Change.org petition in which they plead with Pope Francis to bless the quarterback’s legs.

Upon hearing about the movement, Bradford said he’s 100 percent behind anything that will help him get over the torn left ACL hump, something that ended both his 2013 and 2014 NFL seasons, limiting the quarterback to only seven games over his final two years with the St. Louis Rams.

“I haven’t seen that,” Bradford said after practice on Tuesday, via CSN Philly. “I was told about it before I talked to you guys. If I got to meet the Pope, I think that would be pretty cool. If he wanted to bless my knee, then I’m all for it.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, the petition has garnered over 3,000 supporters, about 2,000 short of the stated goal of 5,000.

“So, with one of the most religious representatives in the world visiting our wonderful place we call home, how about we get him to bless Bradford’s knees during his visit to Philly!” the petition reads. “This town deserves a Super Bowl, and a healthy Bradford is the only way we will have a parade down Broad Street! Please sign this petition and Go Eagles and Welcome to Philly, Pope Francis!!!!”

The Pope, of course, is scheduled to visit Philadelphia on Sept. 26 and 27, something that forces the Eagles to face a pretty daunting road schedule to start the regular season.

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly staked his reputation -- not to mention possibly his job -- on the belief that Bradford would be able to produce and remain injury-free in 2015. While a blessing by the Pope may not help those hopes come to fruition in the long run, it may not hurt, either.
