Bortles may give Jags an edge in year two
The Jacksonville Jaguars enter year two of the Blake Bortles era, and the team hopes a year's worth of experience for their franchise quarterback will translate into more success on the field.
As Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union points out, the Jaguars will head into the 2015 season with a quarterback situation that, on paper at least, looks to be as good or better than seven of their opponents.
With 13 starts to his credit last season, Bortles should have an upper hand against rookie starters Marcus Mariota of the Tennessee Titans, who the Jaguars face twice, and Jameis Winston of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Additionally, Bortles figures to have an advantage heading into Jacksonville's games against the Buffalo Bills, who feature EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel at quarterback and the New York Jets, who likely will start either Geno Smith or Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Finally, as Stellino notes, the Jaguars two games against the Houston Texans, who will have either Ryan Mallett or Brian Hoyer under center, should be about even from the quarterbacking perspective.
Whether all of this translates into more wins in 2015 remains to be seen, but for a franchise with just nine wins over the past three seasons, they'll take any advantage they can get.
