Bills sign defensive end Ryan Russell, release Odighizuwa
PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) The Buffalo Bills continue shuffling their defensive front during the first week of training camp by signing end Ryan Russell.
Russell is listed at 6-foot-5 and 267 pounds, and has three seasons of NFL experience, including the past two with Tampa Bay. He had two sacks in 14 games, including six starts, with the Buccaneers last season.
He was selected by Dallas in the fifth round of the 2015 draft out of Purdue, but appeared in just one game for the Cowboys.
Buffalo freed up room on its roster on Sunday by releasing Owa Odighizuwa, an offseason free agent addition. Odighizuwa was attempting to resume his career after missing all of last season, when he was cut by the New York Giants shortly after being issued a four-game NFL suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancers.
The Bills opened training camp Thursday by signing defensive tackle John Hughes.
Injuries have depleted Buffalo's depth at tight end. Nick O'Leary missed practice Sunday because of an injury to his right foot. Logan Thomas did not return to practice Sunday after hurting his shoulder.
Buffalo is off Monday and resumes camp Tuesday in suburban Rochester.
