Bills DT Williams to test injured foot next week

Buffalo Bills starting defensive tackle Kyle Williams will have a better idea next week on the status of his injured left foot, and when - or if - he'll be able to return to play this season.

Williams said Wednesday doctors intend to run tests on his foot on Monday, when the protective boot he's been wearing for the past two weeks will be removed. Williams added he'll also attempt to run on the foot to see if it's feeling better.

He's not revealed the nature of the injury, only to say it's bothered him since training camp.

Coming off his first Pro Bowl appearance last year, Williams has missed the past two games, and has already been ruled out Sunday, when the Bills (5-2) host the New York Jets (4-3).

''I'm hopeful. I feel a little bit better but I won't know until I try to do some things on it,'' Williams said.

Coach Chan Gailey said it was premature to gauge when Williams might play, and didn't rule out the possibility of the player's season being over.

''I don't have any idea when or if he might get back,'' Gailey said. ''I don't know. I hope so.''

For Williams, what might hurt worse is not being able to enjoy being part of the Bills surprising start. He was frustrated being stuck at home watching on TV as Buffalo's defense had 10 sacks in a 23-0 win over Washington at Toronto on Sunday.

''Sitting around watching that massacre was not fun,'' he said. ''I can tell you, my wife had to leave and take my kids to go to dinner.''

Reminded that the Bills had won, Williams said it would have been far more enjoyable to be on the field.

''It's fun to win, but it's not a lot of fun to watch,'' he said. ''I am happy. I hope we kill them on Sunday. I hope I can come back to play. But it won't feel the same unless I can go out and help.''

Receiver Donald Jones practiced on a limited basis Wednesday for the first time since missing two games with an ankle injury. Rookie cornerback Aaron Williams also was limited in his first time out with the team since missing four games with a chest injury.

Williams said he's not yet been cleared for contact.

Starting left guard Andy Levitre, who's filling at left tackle in placed of Demetrius Bell, missed practice to give his shoulder an extra day of rest. He's expected to play this weekend.

NOTE: Former Bills defensive end Aaron Schobel visited the team's facility on Wednesday, though not in a bid to attempt a comeback. Schobel traveled to Buffalo from his home in Texas to have a medical checkup that's a requirement to fulfill his retirement obligations.

The Bills released Schobel in August 2010 after he had difficulty making up his mind on whether to retire. He finished with 78 sacks in nine seasons with the Bills to rank second on the team behind Hall of Famer Bruce Smith.
