Bill O'Brien thinks Jadeveon Clowney will be ready for Week 1

Jadeveon Clowney ended his collegiate career as one of the highest-rated prospects by many draft analysts, including NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah.
There’s no reason to disagree with that assessment, considering the defensive end routinely commanded double- and triple-teams while at South Carolina. The Houston Texans selected him first overall in the 2014 NFL Draft, and the dynamic duo of J.J. Watt and Clowney was poised to take over the league.
But, various injuries sidelined Clowney, and the rookie’s season officially ended when he underwent microfracture knee surgery in December.
Clowney is still working to return, but Houston coach Bill O’Brien thinks the potential star will be ready for Week 1 of the regular season, per NFL Media’s Michael Silver:
“There has been speculation that Clowney, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2014 draft, might not be the same player following the surgery, but O’Brien was surprisingly optimistic.
‘I think he’s gonna be there for the opening game (of the regular season) against Kansas City,’ O’Brien said. ‘I think he’s going to make it back, and I’m really looking forward to that. He’s working very hard to get back.'”
In four appearances last season, Clowney managed seven total tackles and was held without a sack.
