Bengals' Lewis: There will be more PAT misses than people understand

The Bengals voted for the change to move extra points back to the 15-yard line, but Marvin Lewis isn't exactly a fan of the new rule.

Lewis believes it puts teams that play outdoors like his at a disadvantage when bad weather rolls around.

"I think our division is going to be affected by it more than any other in football," Lewis said on The Jim Rome Show. "Because all four teams are outside, we are all going to get bad weather at some point in the season, and I do think it’s going to play a big part."

While Lewis likes the idea of giving the defense a chance to score points off missed conversions, he thinks the longer extra point will have a bigger impact on the game than most people think.

"I think adding the defense to score is a great opportunity, a good part of it," Lewis said. "But I think moving the ball back, kicking the ball from the 15 yard line, which is virtually a 33-yard kick, you’re going to see quite a few missed PATs, more than people understand."

Lewis said that his team will spend more time working on two-point conversions on both sides of the ball in training camp in light of the rule change. He doesn't anticipate changing his thought process on extra points much, noting that the league-wide success rate on two-point conversions is less than 50 percent
