Ben Roethlisberger refutes report that he'll be back for Week 7

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is on track to make it back onto the field for the team's Week 7 game against Kansas City, according to a report.

Roethlisberger is progressing well from the knee injury he suffered in Week 3 in St. Louis, and is already off crutches, according to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com. Roethlisberger appears to be on his way toward meeting the low end of the initial 4-to-6 week timeline that many reports suggested when he was diagnosed with a sprained MCL and bone bruise in his left knee.

If Roethlisberger does make it back for the Kansas City game on Oct. 25, he will have missed four games. Michael Vick made his first start for Pittsburgh last Thursday night, a 23-20 overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Making an appearance on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, Roethlisberger said he's still proceeding on a week-to-week basis, and has no idea where the report came from.

"That does not come from me or our doctors, Roethlsiberger said. "I just left Dr. Bradley and he said, ‘Where do these reports come from that you’re coming back at a certain week?’  I’m like, ‘I don’t know doc, I haven’t really heard any of them.’ So, I assume that’s exactly what he was talking about. We know that people like to just speculate and say things. So, that did not come from me, the Steelers or any of our doctors, more importantly.

"What we’re trying not to do is put a time on it and just go week-by-week. Basically say, ‘I’m out this week, we’ll reevaluate it next week and see if and what I can do.’ To me, that’s the better way and maybe the more optimistic way to look at it. Rather than put a number on it, lets just take it one week at a time.”
