Belichick: Record against Ryan 'has been OK,' 'I'll take it'

The New England Patriots have experienced plenty of success with Tom Brady at quarterback. But one coach who has given him fits at times with his defensive schemes is Rex Ryan.
The former New York Jets coach blasted onto the scene in 2009 and immediately upset the Patriots 16-9 in his second week. The Jets posted a 3-2 record against their rival in their first two seasons under Ryan, including a 28-21 road win in the 2010 AFC Divisional Round.
But that early success faded away as the Patriots continued to compete for championship, while New York faded to the back of the pack.
New England went 9-4 against Ryan before he was fired by the Jets after the 2014 season, which is something coach Bill Belichick noted during a conference call Wednesday with the Buffalo media.
“I think our record against him has been OK,” Belichick said. “I’ll take it.”
Ryan, of course, is now the coach of the Buffalo Bills, who will host New England in a Week 2 matchup this Sunday.
While the Jets did have some success against Brady, the three-time Super Bowl MVP ended up with solid numbers against Ryan. Brady completed 59.7 percent of his passes and connected on 21 touchdowns while only throwing six interceptions against Ryan’s aggressive defensive schemes.
