Bears Pro Bowl DT Harris practices after benching

Published Oct. 28, 2009 8:46 p.m. ET

Tommie Harris returned to practice for the Chicago Bears after coach Lovie Smith benched the three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle last week.

Smith made it clear: Harris had better practice if he wants to play. And that's exactly what he was doing Wednesday as the Bears prepared for the Cleveland Browns.

Harris was in uniform and stretching with his teammates during the first few minutes of practice, which are open to the media. He was expected to participate without limitations after sitting out last week because of his chronic left knee problems.

He did not play in Sunday's 45-10 loss at Cincinnati after being listed as doubtful, though Harris insisted afterward that had nothing to do with his injury.
