Atlanta Falcons are one step closer to defying the early-season odds

The Atlanta Falcons were 5-0. They were a team ready to make that push towards the postseason and possibly even take down the NFC South title.

Then, everything changed.

As ESPN Stats & Information first reported when the Falcons went to 5-0, their chances of making the playoffs were set at 91 percent. The stat points out that when the playoffs went to 12 teams in 1990, 39 of 43 teams who started 5-0 made the playoffs.

The last time someone failed? The Denver Broncos and New York Giants in 2009, per ESPN.

The Falcons aren't out of it yet, but with their loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 13, it obviously puts them one step closer defying the odds.
