Arizona Cardinals: After Cubs victory, now have longest drought
The Arizona Cardinals last won a championship in 1947, spanning stops in three cities
The Arizona Cardinals are now sports biggest losers. Well, at least they own professional sports longest title drought. Thank you Chicago Cubs.
After the Cubs won the World Series on Wednesday night over the Cleveland Indians, they broke their 108-year championship drought. They are no longer America’s loveable losers.
Does that make the Cardinals now the loveable losers? Well, maybe in Arizona. They are hardly losers though. At least not anymore.
It has been so long since they won an NFL Championship, they were still the Chicago Cardinals back in 1947. They moved to St. Louis in 1960 and were there through the 1987 season. In 1988 they headed to Arizona to become the Phoenix Cardinals and then in 1994 changed to the Arizona Cardinals.
The Cardinals have at least been to a Super Bowl however. They came within two minutes of being Super Bowl Champions in 2009. They came within a game last season.

The Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, and Jacksonville Jaguars are now the only remaining teams to have not been to at least one Super Bowl. The Texans have only been around since 2002 and the Jaguars 1995 however.
This is part of why the 2016 season so far has been such a disappointment with the high expectations placed upon them. There is still time in 2016 to turn it around and make the playoffs for a shot at winning it all but the margin of error has diminished.
Don’t count out the Cardinals giving the longest drought back to the City of Cleveland. Once the Cardinals win a Super Bowl, the title goes to the Indians. The Indians came within one game of breaking their drought and continuing the Cubs one.
The window is still open after 2016 if the Cardinals don’t reach the ultimate goal in 2016 but for how long? They have some big roster decisions to make after the season. The Cardinals may have to hold this title for awhile but don’t give up on 2016 just yet Birdgang.
