AP source: Jets re-sign Bilal Powell to 1-year deal

NEW YORK (AP) A person familiar with the deal says the New York Jets have re-signed running back Bilal Powell to a one-year contract.

Powell, a fourth-round draft pick out of Louisville in 2011, ran for 141 yards and a touchdown on 33 carries as a backup to both Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Jets hadn't announced the deal.

Powell, known for his versatility and strong blocking in the passing game, saw his role in the running game diminished last season as then-offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg tried to spread carries between his three backs.

He has 1,296 career yards rushing and six TDs, along with 65 catches for 511 yards in his four seasons with the Jets.
