Alex Smith got a cool shoutout from Joe Montana after the Chiefs win

BY foxsports • January 10, 2016

Joe Montana used to be the last passer to quarterback the Kansas City Chiefs to a playoff win.

That title now belongs to Alex Smith -- but the Hall of Famer was happy to pass the torch.

It's eerie how similar Montana and Smith's paths were. Both starred for the San Francisco 49ers. Both were replaced by athletic, scrambling quarterbacks. Both ended up in the Fountain City and defeated teams from Houston, albeit 22 years apart.

Smith will have a chance to take the Chiefs further than any quarterback since Len Dawson, though. Not even Montana could get past the AFC Championship Game.
