49ers practice-squad lineman Ramsey receives four-game suspension

A week of upheaval for the San Francisco 49ers trickled down to their practice squad on Tuesday.

Defensive lineman Kaleb Ramsey, a seventh-round draft choice in 2014, was hit with a four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs. The 6-foot-3, 285-pound Ramsey has not appeared in an NFL game since he was drafted out of Boston College.

The 49ers quickly moved to fill Ramsey's slot by signing cornerback Chris Davis to the practice squad. Davis, an undrafted free agent out of Auburn in 2014, appeared in 12 games and made one start with the San Diego Chargers last season.

Davis, who also served as the team's kick returner, was waived off San Diego's injured-reserve list on Oct. 26.
