49ers' Kaepernick had surgery after draft

San Francisco 49ers second-round pick Colin Kaepernick had minor leg surgery after the draft, the Sacramento Bee reported Friday.

The quarterback apparently played with a lower leg injury during the final four games of the season, but it did not seem to affect him.

"For me, going through the end of the season and then on to the Senior Bowl and everything — there wasn't any time to get it handled,” Kaepernick told the paper. The Bee reported that the surgery was shortly after the draft.

The 49ers said they were aware of the situation.

"The 49ers are aware that Colin Kaepernick underwent a procedure to address a pre-existing injury and were fully aware of the injury at the time of the draft. The 49ers have no concerns regarding his health and are confident that he will be ready for the 2011 NFL season,” the team said in a statement.
