49ers' Hyde credits passing game for helping him regain his stride

San Francisco 49ers running back Carlos Hyde finally got back on track in Sunday night's last-minute loss to the New York Giants.

Hyde had his best game since a monstrous performance in the season opener, rushing for 93 yards and a touchdown to bounce back from a dismal 20-yard, eight-carry outing in the previous week's loss to Green Bay.

The second-year back said the reason for his success was simple. Struggling quarterback Colin Kaepernick eschewed the cautious approach from the previous two games and started taking deep shots down the field.

“Kap making plays on the field opened it up for me,” Hyde told reporters. “He was on tonight, and when he’s on, I’m able to get on."

Kaepernick had three completions of at least 25 yards in the second half, which is when Hyde starting to come alive. Limited to 12 yards on eight carries in the opening half, Hyde piled up 81 yards on his last 13 attempts - a healthy 6.2 yards per tote against a defense that came in ranked No. 1 against the run.

"Offensively we were able to get the run game going, which was good because we’ve been struggling the last few weeks," Hyde said. "It was good to see Kap out there throwing it around.”
