49ers' Bowman: Defense takes a 'step in the right direction' in defeat
San Francisco linebacker NaVorro Bowman took a glass half-full approach following Sunday's 17-3 loss to the unbeaten Green Bay Packers.
"I think we definitely took a step in the right way as a defense," Bowman told reporters in the wake of the 49ers' third straight loss. "But we would like to get the win."
Aaron Rodgers and the Packers' potent offense entered Sunday's contest average 32 points per game but were held in check by San Francisco's defense, which was torched for 90 points in back-to-back road losses at Pittsburgh and Arizona.
"Like I've been saying, we're young (and), we've got a new coaching staff here, so it was going to take a few games for us," Bowman said. "Facing a quarterback like Aaron, knowing that he's going to come in prepared and ready.
"I think we had a little bit more focus on that, just trying to make sure all the way up to the game we were on the same page, and I think that showed today."
