You can already wager on how Kevin Durant's first season with the Warriors will play out
Now that Kevin Durant has moved to the Bay Area, the Golden State Warriors seem like a pretty safe bet to win the 2016-17 title. And indeed, oddsmakers seem to agree. The Warriors opened this week as -150 favorites to win next year's title.
That's far from the only way that you can wager on Durant's upcomng season in Golden State, however. On Tuesday, Bovada.lv posted lines for KD's 2016-17 scoring average, the Warriors' over/under for wins, the Thunder's over/under, and which Golden State star will lead the team in scoring next year.
The over/under for Durant's 2016-17 scoring average is set at 26 points. Both the over and under boast -120 odds, which means you'd have to bet $120 to win $100 (plus your initial bet back). Stephen Curry was the only Warriors player to average more than 26 points per game last year (30.1). Klay Thompson was second in scoring at 22.1 points per game. Durant, on the other hand, averaged 28.2 points per game in his last season with the Thunder. Now that he'll have to share the ball a little more in Golden State, 26 seems like a solid line.
Bovada doesn't expect the Warriors to repeat their record-breaking regular season next year. The over/under for Golden State wins in 2016-17 is set at 67.5, with both sides of the action coming at a -120 price. While Golden State undoubtedly has more offensive fire power next season, it remains to be seen whether they'll have the depth to make it through an 82-game slog at a record pace. Still, expecting the Warriors to lose 5 more games next season is bold.
if you believe Oklahoma City has to trade Russell Westbrook sooner than later, then the Thunder's over/under for 2016/17 might intrigue you. Oddsmakers have OKC's win total for next year set at 47.5 -- yes, at -120 for either side.
Lastly, you can wager on whether Durant or Curry will lead the Warriors in scoring next year. Durant is the heavy favorite at -150, while Curry is +110. There's no parlay for taking Durant as the leading scorer and the over, for what it's worth. But if you're extremely confident in your read on how Golden State will share the scoring load next year, there might be money to be made.
