Wittman: Record-setting night shows 'totally different' John Wall

Is it possible for a player to set a new franchise record and still have the box score understate just how much of an impact that player had?

In Tuesday night's Game 2 victory, Washington Wizards All-Star John Wall bounced back from a down Game 1 with a vengeance. He scored 26 points and dished 17 assists; the latter bested Gilbert Arenas' previous Wizards franchise high for assists in a postseason game.

Wall and fellow guard Bradley Beal were dominant, and coach Randy Wittman indicated after the game that these are two players who have taken significant steps forward, according to ESPN.com's Ohm Youngmisuk:

"At this time a year ago, he and John were scared of ... what's the term I want to use without getting in trouble ... it's [just] totally different," said Wittman. "Just that experience is huge for them to get a playoff series win too and get into the second round with the top seed last year ... You can't replace experience. They are two different people now coming into this year."

And Wall agreed, per the same ESPN report:

"Just as a player, I improved," Wall said. "Every year I have gotten better and my teammates believe in me. Without those guys I can't be the John Wall that I want to be in this league."
